Deconstruction at Warsaw Ave
Building Value crews are currently on-site at a historic Warsaw Avenue property, beginning a full deconstruction project with the cleanout phase. The building has a meaningful Cincinnati history—it was once home to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Institute for Christian Education, which served the local Deaf community for decades.
Once cleanout is complete, our crews will carefully deconstruct the building, salvaging original trim, molding, windows, exterior doors and other materials for reuse at our Northside retail outlet rather than outright disposal.
This project also marks a new chapter for Terry Brueneman, our former Retail Manager, who is now serving as Building Value’s Deconstruction Manager. Terry is bringing his extensive knowledge of architectural salvage and reuse into the field, helping lead crews through the hands-on work of deconstruction.
That hands-on experience is at the heart of Building Value’s workforce development mission. Real job sites provide opportunities for our trainees to develop construction skills, learn job-site safety and gain the experience needed to pursue careers in the trades.

DIY Workshops Are Back at Building Value
Let’s be honest: houses are complicated.
Behind every wall is a maze of framing, plumbing, electrical wiring, insulation and other systems. Above your head are roofs, gutters and HVAC equipment. Under your feet are floors, foundations and—especially in an older Cincinnati home—probably a few surprises.
And while many of us are perfectly capable of learning how to fix things, we’re rarely given the opportunity to learn how our homes actually work in the first place.
That’s where our friends at Do It Yourself Darlin come in. This fall, DIYD is bringing a full slate of practical, accessible home-maintenance and repair workshops to locations throughout Greater Cincinnati—including two September workshops right here at Building Value.
First up is Drywall Repair (and Tips on Plaster) with Andrew Hall, happening Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you’ve ever stared at a hole in your wall and thought, “I should probably fix that…” this one’s for you.
Then, on Saturday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., it’s time for Houses 101 with Rhett Harkins: Demystify Your Home. This lecture-style workshop is designed for new homeowners, prospective homeowners and longtime homeowners alike.
Building Value is just one piece of a much larger Cincinnati community supporting Do It Yourself Darlin’s mission.
Throughout September and into the fall, DIYD is partnering with organizations and businesses across the region to bring practical skills education to different communities and spaces.
That includes workshops at the Cincinnati ToolBank Training Center, where participants can learn electrical, plumbing, power-tool and woodworking skills.
