Join us for Better Bench Building 2026, a free, beginner-friendly woodworking workshop that brings people together to build something meaningful for Cincinnati’s public spaces. Whether you’ve never picked up a drill or you already love working with your hands, this workshop is designed to be accessible and collaborative.
Participants will learn practical woodworking skills while helping construct durable, functional benches that will be installed in shared community spaces across the city. Along the way, you’ll gain confidence using tools, understand basic construction techniques, and see how salvaged materials can be transformed into something beautiful and useful.
During the workshop, you’ll work side-by-side with experienced instructors and volunteers who will guide you step-by-step through the bench-building process. All tools and safety equipment will be provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own tools if they prefer.
Before or after the workshop, we encourage you to explore Building Value’s retail store, where you’ll find reclaimed lumber, hardware, and one-of-a-kind salvaged materials. It’s a great opportunity to gather inspiration for future DIY projects and learn more about how material reuse supports job training and waste reduction in our community.
This event is proudly presented by Civic Cincinnati, the University of Cincinnati Urbanism Club, Building Value, and Scrap2Home—organizations committed to placemaking, sustainability, and hands-on community building.
