URGENT NEED: Building Value Robbed of $9,000

On Sunday morning, July 16th, around 2:00 a.m., thieves cut through the chain link fence surrounding Easterseals’ Building Value resale store in Northside. They broke the windows of the trucks, and robbed the organization of $9,000 worth of tools and equipment. An investigation is underway, but we are not hopeful that we will see the tools of our trade any time soon.

We are a social enterprise, meaning that all revenue is funneled back into job development programs. These programs invest in our neighbors, providing in-demand training to help people overcome barriers to employment and reclaim the dignity and pride that work brings.

We are in a tight spot. We have deconstruction contracts to complete, and no equipment with which to complete them while we wait for insurance. We are getting by on rentals and borrowed tools, but the cost is straining our already tight margins.

We believe in community. We believe in second chances. And we believe in the generous, open hearts of Greater Cincinnati. A gift of any size will be deeply appreciated as we work through this unexpected obstacle.

Our deconstruction projects keep thousands of tons of materials out of landfills, and provide vital job training for individuals facing barriers to employment. We are eager to get back to business as usual: creating a sustainable community. Thank you for your support during this time.

UPDATE: We have heard many questions wondering if donations of tools would be helpful. We have already received some welcome support from Cincinnati Community ToolBank, but still have a great need for power tools including:

  • Circular saw – battery or  corded (plug-in type) & blades
  • Sawz-all – battery or corded & blades
  • Drills – Impact & regular
  • Demolition hammers – corded
  • Portable generators – minimum 1600 kw
  • Large cut-off saws & blades
  • Hand-held grinders & metal cutting discs
  • Jackhammer
  • Electric or pneumatic commercial grease gun
  • 50’ commercial extension cords
