Cincinnati’s favorite zookeeper, Thane Maynard, believes “Too much stuff in America goes to landfills.” That’s why he calls Building Value’s retail location on Spring Grove Avenue in Northside his favorite store in town.

“The store’s popularity is proof that building materials are both recyclable and desirable. People are happy to pay for unique materials that came from dismantled buildings.”

Like Building Value, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has a commitment to zero waste. “We recycle whatever we can, including elephant poop,” (a popular fertilizer) says Maynard. That’s why he’s a Building Value frequent shopper. “They’ve shown us that you can dismantle a house and use a tremendous amount of those materials for other structures. Like windows, light fixtures, doors, cabinets, bathtubs, furniture. We’re talking valuable stuff that’s really affordable for the next owner.”

“And when you consider the on-the-job training that goes along with the dismantling, Building Value is a win-win, no doubt about it!” says Maynard with conviction. “With our shared missions of sustainability and community service, it’s great to be in partnership with Building Value.”

“Building Value is such a good model. This entire program is priceless for those involved, and for the entire community.”
