I was stuck in life, and I actually wanted to get somewhere in life. Building Value is a place for beginning construction workers. Somebody that wants to chase their dream in the construction field—Building Value will get you there.

I am a young mother of three girls. I came into the program to learn new skills to jump start my career in construction. I've always wanted to build things from scratch. I think anybody that's new to construction and want to learn about how to get in construction and what your day-to-day job will look like in construction, I would say this is a good program to start.

This place is always backing you—they’re always in your corner, telling the other companies what you can do. They teach you how to behave on the job site, how to maintain the job, how to care for yourself—they teach you the whole nine yards.

I never knew the difference between a screwdriver and a wrench, so I had to ask questions because I didn't know anything. And I wanted a new start, so [Building Value] gave me that. Even with the deconstruction jobs we do: if you know how to take it apart, you know how to put it together.

Building Value is a program that can set you up for life. As long as you stay aligned, stay disciplined, build structure, be on time, and be a good worker. But if I was to tell a friend and recommend a program, I would tell them to just take my advice, look at where I'm at and the situation I'm in, and I could explain how my life is looking and I could give you a point of view on where you could be.

My favorite part about this program was that not only did it help me with my work ethic, it helped me with my daily lifestyles outside of the job. Basically staying strong when I'm not at work, when I want to resort back to my unhealthy habits of not handling the job. I definitely built some more faith in myself being in this program, for sure.

Building Value is an opportunity and it's experience. I specifically came here for experience to get my NCCER to help myself progress in the construction world. Honestly. If I could stay there and I didn't have to just graduate and leave the program, I would stay here for sure. It feels like family. And they like the way I work and they don't underestimate me because I'm a woman.
